[ENGLISH]: Autumn 2003 – a wedding hall in the north of Israel. Two hundred guests, dancing, music and a bride in a white dress. Kifah Massarwi, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, has organized a wedding for herself, minus the groom. This is the opening shot in a bitter battle that she is waging against the Israeli authorities, who forbid her partner from entering the country. The Citizenship Law, which came into effect as a temporary regulation following the Second Intifada (uprising), forbids Palestinian Authority residents to enter Israel, even if they are married to Israeli citizens. For Kifah, it’s a slap in the face. She leaves behind her career and her belief in the peace process, and moves to Berlin to live with her Gaza-born spouse, Yazeed.

The film tells the story of two Palestinian couples who decide to marry knowing it will be impossible for them to live together in Israel. With intimacy and affection, it follows their most private moments and reveals the personal drama out of which emerges the political crisis.

‘Just Married’ follows the couples until the birth of their first children, who today are young adults. Twenty years later, the Law of citizenship is now permanent. The two families are still waging an unrelentless struggle against occupation and oppression. Watching “Just Married” today affords a poignant glance at lost opportunities and shattered hopes, but also at the invincible spirit of resistance.

[DEUTSCH]: Im Sommer 2003 verabschiedete die israelische Regierung ein neues Staatsbürgerschaftsgesetz, dass PalästinenserInnen aus den Autonomiegebieten (unter palästinensischer Verwaltung) untersagt, nach Israel einzureisen, sogar, wenn sie mit israelischen StaatsbürgerInnen verheiratet sind.Herbst 2003 im Norden Israels: 200 Gäste feiern die Hochzeit der Palästinenserin Kifah, der Bräutigam fehlt. Als Palästinenser aus Gaza darf der in Berlin lebende Yazeed nicht zu seiner eigenen Hochzeit in Israel einreisen.

Suhad, eine Palästinenserin aus Bethlehem, verliebt sich während des Studiums in Rabee aus Jerusalem. Nach drei Jahren, entscheidet sich das Paar zu heiraten und in Jerusalem zu leben, obwohl sie wissen, dass es Suhad nicht erlaubt ist, die Stadt zu betreten. Während einer Vortragsreihe über den Friedensprozess zwischen Israelis und PalästinensierInnen in Deutschland verliebt sich Kifah in Yazeed. Da Yazeed die Einreise nach Israel untersagt ist, entscheidet sich Kifah ihre Heimat und ihre Karriere hinter sich zu lassen und zieht nach Berlin. Ihr Glaube an gleiche Rechte und Koexistenz geraten ins Schwanken.
