SHORTS PROGRAMME 2 - WEST BANK SHORTS with video Introduction
SHATTERED MEMORY (Palestine 2024, Hayat Laban, Documentary, 14 min.): A short documentary about Mahfouz Abu Turk a photojournalist, his memories and his archive, through which he documented the events he experienced in the city of Jerusalem and the West Bank from the first Intifada in 1987 and the events that followed until the end of the nineties.
INTERSECTING MEMORY (Palestine 2025, Shayma Awawdeh, Documentary, 20 min.): Shayma’ was six years old when the Second Intifada broke out. More than twenty years later, she opens a box of old videotapes that starts her search for memories. In voice-over she addresses her mother, who says she is blessed with a poor memory. Shayma’, by contrast, still remembers exactly what she wore on her first day of school: her new school uniform with a lace collar and a white bow in her hair. She also remembers spying her birthday cake through a crack in the kitchen door of their house, which had been confiscated by Israeli soldiers.
AN ORANGE IN JAFFA (Palestine/Poland/France 2023, Muhammad Al Mughanni, Fiction, 27 min.): The film is about Mohammed, a young Palestinian who tries to cross an Israeli checkpoint using a temporary Polish residence card. After being turned down by other drivers, Farouk, a well-meaning taxi driver, offers him a ride but he runs into trouble when his previous attempt to enter Israel is discovered
THE PRESENT (Palestine 2019, Farah Nabulsi, Fiction, 24 min.): On his wedding anniversary, Yusef and his young daughter set out in the West Bank to buy his wife a gift. Between soldiers, segregated roads and checkpoints, how easy would it be to go shopping?
THE DEER'S TOOTH (Palestine 2024, Saif Hammash, Fiction, 16 min.): A young man from a refugee camp embarks on a perilous journey in order to fulfil his little brother's wish: to throw his milk tooth into the sea.
